Purpose Counseling provides an inclusive, loving place of therapeutic healing for individuals of all cultural, racial, religious, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic, ability, socioeconomic, and additional identities.
We aim to be informed and create a comfortable atmosphere for all. We work through an emotion-focused lens, recognizing that each client has unique needs and experiences that need thoughtful and considerate care.
Maggie Allen earned her Master of Art in Counseling with an emphasis in marriage, couples and families. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Kansas and has a private practice in Overland Park.
Maggie approaches her counseling sessions from an emotional-focused perspective and with assumption that we are all doing our best but sometimes we could use additional resources to understand difficult seasons. She believes that integrating mindfulness of our core emotions and their roots can help us learn more about why we react to stress and stimuli the way we do. Maggie intends to join her clients to provide support during this discovery and facilitate growth.
Maggie specializes in working with individuals affected by anxiety, life transitions and trauma, especially adolescents and young adults. Families and parents looking for support and strategies in their roles as parents to children with ADHD, learning disabilities or are neurodiverse. Additionally, she enjoys working with couples using Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT) and how family systems impact a couple’s relationship. Maggie also enjoys working with adolescents as they experience life transition.
*Note: I am welcoming and supportive of all faiths and religions, but do not provide spiritual counseling. My focus is a mental health and wellness approach.
Specialties:
Forest and the trees analogy – when we are in the thick of stress or crisis, it feels overwhelming and unending. I want to partner with my clients to help separate the “trees” of the forest, sometimes an outside perspective can view the forest, with fresh eyes and help navigate a path.
I want my clients to feel embraced and held while we work through difficulties and challenges. The purpose of therapy is to work through it all, together.
